Plymouth Youth Justice Service

Plymouth Youth Justice Service (PYJS) work with young people aged 10 to 17 years old that get into trouble with the law or are causing the Police concern. They look into the background of a young person by completing an assessment and try to help them stay away from crime.

We aim to prevent children and young people offending by working as a team made up of different professionals including:

  • Social Workers
  • Police Officers
  • Probation Officers
  • Drugs and Alcohol Advisors
  • Mental Health Practitioners
  • Education Welfare Officers

A young person may come into contact with PYJS if they:

  • get into trouble with the police or are arrested
  • are charged with a crime and have to go to court
  • are convicted of a crime and given a sentence

Usually, the Police are the first people to contact Plymouth Youth Justice Service. Family members and friends can also contact them if they’re worried about a young person’s behaviour.
