improvements in the east of Plymouth have been given the go-ahead.
The scheme will see ageing traffic signal equipment on Plymouth Road in Plympton replaced with the latest technology and will also provide more road capacity whilst making pedestrian and cycling improvements.
A major part of the scheme is an extension to the eastbound, right turn lane at Cot Hill where the road will be widened, reducing queues at this junction.
Following completion of detailed ground investigations and surveys, additional funding has been approved for the Eastern Corridor Junction Improvements Programme, which is set to begin in 2019.
The budget for the scheme has increased from £3.3m to £4.6m with the increase being met from developer contributions identified for strategic transport improvements. The scheme is supported by £2.1m of grant funding from the Department for Transport.
Construction of the scheme is planned to start in 2019 and will continue for approximately eight months.
The first task will be to clear the vegetation along the Plymouth Road at Cot Hill junction. When this is complete, the installation of the mini-roundabout at the Cot Hill at Merafield Road junction will be amongst the first works carried out.
Details of when the works for each of the Plymouth Road junctions will be released as this information is confirmed.
