End of garden waste collections
Due to the unprecedented budget pressures that the Council is now experiencing, we have made the very difficult decision to end garden waste collections for 2022 early.
We began the final collections of the year on Monday 15 August and hoped to have finished by Thursday 25 August. However, it has not been as plain sailing as we would have liked.
Unfortunately, due to the same staff shortages that plagued us earlier in the season, some residents' garden waste has not been picked up on their scheduled collection date.
We know it's the last one of the year so where we have missed collections, we have been back as soon as we can.
Some collections remain outstanding so if you haven't had your collection as scheduled, please leave your bin out and we'll collect it as soon as we can. We'll have rounds running throughout next week from Tuesday 30 August.
You are no longer able to register for garden waste or request a garden waste bin.
We have not taken the decision lightly but we are facing a serious financial position. We announced last week that we are currently faced with a £13.6 million shortfall in our in-year budget. This is due in large part to circumstances beyond our control, not least rapidly rising energy costs.
This decision does not affect your brown and green bin collections and no decisions have been made about next year’s garden waste collections.
You will be able to continue to take garden waste to our recycling centres.
We apologise again for the inconvenience – we know it's not ideal – and thank you in anticipation for your understanding.
