There are two ceremonies for marriage and civil partnership available at the office.

Ceremonies at the Register Office are held on Monday evenings and include:

  • The superintendent registrar making preliminary announcements
  • The declaration and marriage contract/civil partnership statement of intention being read out in the presence of two witnesses plus the superintendent registrar and the registrar
  • The exchanging of rings and the option to make a promise
  • The superintendent registrar announcing you are married/ civil partners
  • The signing of the legal documentation

The Council House is our Civic Building that is situated in the heart of our city, with Plymouth Hoe a short walk away.

The ceremony room can hold up to 56 guests with a grand stairwell perfect for photos.

Ceremonies at the Council House take place on a Friday and Saturday for 30 minutes in the Reception room and costs £425.

The ceremony includes:

  • The superintendent registrar making preliminary announcements
  • The declaration and marriage contract/civil partnership statement of intention being read out loud in the presence of two witnesses plus the superintendent registrar and the registrar
  • The opportunity for a guest to present a reading or poetry
  • The exchanging of rings and the option to make a promise
  • The superintendent registrar announcing you are married/ civil partners
  • The signing of the legal documentation
  • Photo opportunities in the ceremony room

Our registrars are available to attend ceremonies seven days a week at the following approved venues. Once you have a date and venue for your ceremony you will need to book a registrar, this can be made up to two years in advance.

  • The declaration and marriage contract/civil partnership statement of intention being read out loud in the presence of two witnesses plus the superintendent registrar and the registrar
  • The opportunity to read your own promises or to choose from a selection provided
  • The opportunity for a guest to present a reading or poetry
  • The exchanging of rings and the option to make a promise
  • The second opportunity for a guest to present a reading or poetry
  • The announcement of the marriage/ civil partnership
  • The signing of the legal documentation
